A Brief Introduction to Jinggang Mountain

Jinggangshan, full of well-shaped basins, is located in the Southwest of Jiangxi Province, and in the middle section of Luoxiao mountain range along Hunan and Jiangxi borders. In 1927, the CPC, with Mao Zedong as its representative, established the first rural revolutionary base area on Jinggangshan, sparked the flame of Chinese revolution, created a revolutionary path of encircling the cities from the rural areas and seizing state power by armed force, and therefore cultivated the great Jinggangshan spirit. In Chinese revolutionary history, Jinggangshan is hailed as “the Cradle of Chinese Revolution”, “the Cornerstone of the People’s Republic of China”, and “the First Mountain in China”.

Jinggangshan, with more than 100 revolutionary homes and sites, have become a fenceless historical museum, a lively classroom where people accept education in revolutionary tradition, build character, purify mind, and promote ideal. In this holy land, you can trace the footprints of the proletarian revolutionaries of the older generation; trace the origin of the people’s army building, agrarian revolution, the red political power and the Party building, etc. Furthermore, you can understand better the essence of these great works like Why is That Red Political Power can Exist in China? The Struggle in the Jinggang Mountains, A Single Spark Start a Prairie Fire. You can also sense the first historical touch of Marxism and Chinese Realities; hear the rumbling of guns in Huangyangjie; listen to the “red” (revolutionary) songs and stories; be baptized by the heroic deeds of the revolutionary martyrs.

The Jinggangshan Spirit, conceived in the arduous struggle, is the source of the Chinese communists’ revolutionary spirit. Together with the Soviet Spirit during the Democratic Revolution period, Long March Spirit, Yan’an Spirit and Xibaipo Spirit, it has inspired millions of people to fight for their happiness under the leadership of CPC, and has ushered in the birth of new China and one-after-another victory in socialist construction. It will surely become a great spiritual impetus and motivation in promoting our building of a well-off society in an all-round way and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Jinggangshan is not only a mountain of revolution and hero, but also a mountain of scenery and magic charm. With thousands of mountain peaks and river valleys, accompanied by forest seas, babbling brooks and flying cascades, Jinggangshan integrates steepness, gracefulness, peacefulness, majesty and peculiarity into one. Karst caves, hot springs, mountain rocks, rare animals and plants, whatever you want to see, you can see it there. “The same mountain sees a different season” and “every ten miles brings on a different weather” are a real portrayal of Jinggangshan. In 1982, Jinggangshan was listed among the first batch of important scenic spots or places of historical interest by the State Council. In 1991, it was voted the “Top 40 Tourist Resorts of China.” In 1994, it was designated as a base for patriotism education and national garden city. In 1998, it was elected among the first group of “outstanding tourist cities of China.” In 2001, with a forest coverage of 80%, it was granted 4A scenic spot area, which covers an area of 261.43 km2, and consists of 11 scenic areas, 76 scenic spots and 460 scenic views.

What’s more, the air of Jinggangshan is rich in negative oxide anions, which brings on it the name of “Natural Oxygen Bar”. “After a tour to Jinggang, No mountain travels any more,” wrote the great historian Guo Moruo after his visit to Jinggangshan.
